Casual Friday 3/6/15

Casual Friday BootsToday is my two month “blogiversary”. It has been quite a ride and I have learned so much. I am very appreciative of those who have joined me.

I missed last week’s casual Friday because of traveling. Although I had hoped to be able to do my regular posts while on the road I had some technology issues and did not accomplish that.

I experienced the joy of airline travel as I went to Wisconsin to join an older brother’s 50th wedding anniversary celebration. The airport experience went fairly well on the way to Wisconsin, but the return trip was less successful. Because of  terrible weather in Dallas many flights were cancelled over several days, including my return flight. I was supposed to fly home leaving early Sunday morning. I did not get home until Tuesday evening.

The highlight of the week was spending time with family. I have one sister who lives with me, but she is the only family member I see regularly. This trip and the anniversary celebration allowed me to spend time with my other brothers and sisters, nieces and nephew, cousins (many of whom I had not seen since high school), great-nieces and great-nephews, my only surviving aunt, and the two sisters-in-law who had been married to my deceased brothers.  My dear daughter had also traveled to Wisconsin for the celebration so I got to spend a couple of days with her, always a highlight. Besides the large party where I saw many people, I also had quiet dinners with a few family members with whom I am closest. The anniversary party itself was wonderful. I met the newest family members in the form of tiny babies and new spouses. I probably saw some people for the final time although we are blissfully unaware of who those might be. It was a quick trip (albeit not as quick as expected) but well worth it.

Once my flight was cancelled my oldest brother was able to rescue me from the airport. I had two bonus days to spend with him and his wife. I am so grateful that he was available so that I did not have to spend all of the time in a hotel. There was time for additional visiting and some craft shopping with my sister-in-law. It ended up being very enjoyable, unexpected free time.

One thing I enjoy about air travel is that I have guiltless reading time. I love to read. Usually when I am home I only read for a short period of time before I start feeling that I really should be working on something. That strong work ethic I grew up with sometimes interferes with enjoyment of leisure time. When I am traveling, however, I just do not feel any guilt. I finished a William Bernhardt justice novel and read almost the entire book The Storied Life of A.J.Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin. However, I did not get to cross stitch this week which disappoints me.  I didn’t take a project along because I expected the trip to have such a quick turnaround. I wish I had packed some stitching.

After working only three days for two weeks in a row I am quite far behind at work.  It will take time to get caught up.

In the good news department, we had a day of plentiful snow and another day of rain while I was away. Any moisture is so appreciated during this drought.

Daylight savings time starts this weekend. We must remember to move our clocks ahead.

Have a great weekend everyone!

A casual Friday, just another thread of my life.

Each Usually on Friday I join Amie of Amie Writes for Casual Friday, a post “with no structure, no rules, anything goes.”  Enjoy this week’s version.

O.K. this is funny! I am from Wisconsin, Milwaukee to be exact. At least I was born there and stayed until I left at 18 for the Air Force! 🙂

I flew into and out of Milwaukee, but I grew up in north eastern Wisconsin which is where the party was. Seems to be a lot in common.

It’s a vintage full service gas station with old cars parked around it. Beautiful with lots of color. Hubby is building the border now. Have to rush this one, got to head back to our home at the beach Monday morning. We rent our mountain home here through NC Vacation Mountain Reality starting next week until October. We like to be here in the winter to be in snow, we don’t get snow at the beach. We don’t like the mountains very much in the spring and summer. Remember I’m a mermaid :)). It is truly gorgeous up here though.

Congratulations on your Blogiversary and spending time with your family and a good read! Have you had time to cross stitch or have you been focused on catching up with work?

And I’m not looking forward to losing an hour, but of course that’s not in my control. I’ll just make the best of it.

Thanks for reading, commenting and following me. I have not had time to cross stitch this week but that’s partly because I am concentrating on my blog and building up my network. I really have to develop a good balance between my varied interests.

Congrats on your blogiversary! About the cross stitching, just think if you had tried to take a sewing needle on the plane, you would have had a whole new adventure! 😉

That’s a valid point about the needle and of course the scissors would have compounded the problem…but I think if it was in the suitcase that I checked it would have been ok.

Thanks for the comment. I did a lot of experimenting before I came up with that but I think it fits my blog.

Are you asking if I noticed your header? I did and I love the worn out spot on the shoe. It struck me that the header is very appropriate for your tag line of your perspective at the moment, because if you looked down and took a picture that would be your perspective.

Yes I am! I think boots for headers are a good thing! Thought it was interesting yours was too. I like the worn out spot too, those boots have walked a lot…
