Last week I mentioned a new yellow blossom in the garden but I confessed that I did not know what it was. Turns out it yarrow. It commonly grows around here and I should have been able to identify it. Ours had been planted in that spot 3 years ago but it had never blossomed. This year when it finally bloomed I did not recall that we had planted it and I did not recognize it.
The month of July has come up from nowhere and blindsided me. Today July 3 we have passed the midpoint of the year 2015. It is the 184th day of the year with 181 days remaining until the end of the year. I do not spend my time counting down many things, but it is just mind-boggling to think we are more than half way through another year. When I was a teacher, in my mind the 4th of July marked the midpoint of summer vacation. I never really counted the days but it psychologically seemed to be significant. Memorial Day seems to officially start summer, Labor Day seems to end it and in the middle is Independence Day.
I plan to have a calm three-day weekend. I slept in this morning. Quite remarkably I didn’t wake up until after 8 a.m. Typically even when I plan to sleep in I am up by 7:00. I actually went to bed early last night so it is surprising that I slept that late. After showering, getting dressed, and reading the newspaper while eating breakfast, I finished a book that I had been reading. The rest of my day will be spent doing a bit of cleaning, stitching on my ongoing project and blogging. Minus the cleaning, these are some of my favorite things.

Sometimes I need Friday and the weekend a whole lot more than other times. After working for 19 days straight including two full weekends I definitely need this weekend. I am not complaining about my job as it is rewarding and fulfilling, which is part of the reason I have not yet retired. But there was a lot of pressure over the past several weeks and it is time to take some deep breaths and exhale and just plain relax. I happily greet this weekend with no specific plans but just some ideas of what I could do if I feel like it.
It was a beautiful week weather wise. We had some sunny days that were warm and sunny but there was a pleasant breeze. There were a couple days when I took the dogs for a walk after work and then sat outside with them while I read. The first rose appeared in our garden. We also have blossoms on our pink lemonade honeysuckle.
My normal work site is not in the interesting, downtown area of Santa Fe. This week I was supporting our clients in one of the old historic buildings downtown so I got to enjoy the beautiful sights that Santa Fe is noted for. It was truly wonderful to take some noon time strolls in the great weather. I wish I had taken a camera with me.
One of the things I missed over the past week is spending time in the blogging community. I was very tired so I just did not have the ambition to browse and comment, or even respond to comments that I had received. I also didn’t have time to post anything so part of what I need to do this weekend is work to re-establish a blogging presence. I have missed doing my regular features so I really look forward to getting back to the routine. I hope my readers will still maintain their interest in spite of my absence.
Here’s hoping everyone has a great weekend.
