Last week I published Do You Remember – A Tuesday List of Ten which was a list of things that have been become nearly obsolete because of changes in technology or social policy over the recent past. The responses from readers listed other things that fit the same category. This week I present a follow-up which includes some responses from readers as well as other items that were omitted from the first list.
Today’s edition of the Tuesday List of Ten is suggested by something near and dear to my heart, Dogs are considered to be man’s best friend. Could that be because they offer so much? This edition of the Tuesday List of 10 is:
Things Dogs Do That People Should Emulate
- Drink lots of water.
- Get lots of exercise to include long walks.
- Get plenty of sleep, take a nap when needed and stretch when you get up.
- Show your excitement and greet people with all the joy you can demonstrate.
- Explore your environment.
- Find out what you like in life, and then do it repeatedly.
- Accept love. There is great satisfaction in being touched and cuddled.
- Train the people around you and your life will be good.
- Be loyal without judging. See and hear and know everything and be trusted to not repeat it.
- Sometimes it is enough to just be there for someone.
I am keeping the list brief and to the point. I think no further explanation is needed.
What are other lessons that we can learn from the animals in our lives?
I am not a blogging expert and am really very new at this whole blogging thing. One thing I have learned is that blogging and following blogs can be all time-consuming. I am learning that I cannot possibly follow each blog that catches my eye. I have to make decisions about which ones to follow. It comes down to time management. There are so many super blogs that really speak to me. Those are the ones on which I will concentrate.
For this week’s list, I am listing blog characteristics that will keep me from following a blog, or cause me to stop following a blog that I previously followed. This is my personal criteria. I am not trying to impose my criteria on anyone else. I am simply stating those things that I will not follow. Restricting my blogs may cause me to miss some really great information, but realistically I cannot follow everything.
My Top Ten Tuesday list this week is not my original work. It derives from a BuzzFeed list of 26 Worst Things Than Can Happen to a Book Lover. Since my list consists of only 10 items I have pared the list down to those things that I personally feel are the worst of the worst. That task was not easy because there are a lot of really good items on the list, and perhaps one or two of my own that I could have added. A lot of these issues would no longer be a problem for me if I were to join the e-book movement, but alas, I am one of those people who still prefers reading a physical copy of a book. The feel, the heft, the weight, the smell, the page-turning, highlighting favorite parts, writing comments in the margin, easily going back to a previous passage, etc. are all things I enjoy and do not want to give up. Therefore, I am likely to have some of these things happen to me yet again.
I am planning to do a regularly featured post (or two or three) on my blog. One idea which I am testing today is a Tuesday Top Ten List. This will be a list relating to a random topic that strikes my fancy. The idea is to quickly come up with a list of ten things (in no particular order) that fits a category. My choice for my inaugurate top ten list is….(drum roll please)…..
THE TOP TEN THINGS THAT GIVE ME JOY
And my quick, spontaneous, unrehearsed, off the cuff, list is:
- An unexpected phone call from a loved one
- A good laugh shared with others
- My dogs eagerly greeting me when I come home
- Scented candles
- A good book
- The clouds in the sky
- Participating in the Mass
The intent is to be fun and spontaneous. The list should not be an overly analyzed and critically judged perfectionist kind of thing. The top ten items I come up with at this moment may not be the top ten in ten minutes. That’s O.K.
I invite (and challenge) the reader to come up with their own list of top ten things that give you joy. The idea is to let yourself go and have fun with it. You never know what might come into your mind and thus out on a blog! Feel free to comment with the top 10 things that give you joy. And I am also eager to get feedback on this idea.
Top Ten Tuesday, just another thread in my life.
