Dreams – A Words Crush Wednesday Favorite Quote

Dreams

I first heard of Langston Hughes when his poem, Dreams, was included in my reading book in junior high. I was a young girl and the poem spoke to me. As I read the poem today, despite many years that have passed, I still embrace the important message from the poem. I have been called an idealist by someone who meant it as a criticism. I wear that name proudly. I don’t want to give up on the ideals that have been ingrained in me my whole life and I certainly don’t want to give up on my dreams.

Langston Hughes (1902 – 1967) was a poet and writer who is credited with interpreting the black experience in the United States for the world. He is an important  figure in American literary history.

On Wednesdays I participate in Words Crush Wednesday Favorite Quote Challenge hosted by Rebirth of Lisa.

wow. I didn’t know that poem, but now I will treasure it. I too am an idealist and believe that it will all be ok in the end. If it isn’t ok, it isn’t the end…..Thank you for sharing this.

Thanks for your comment. I love that philosophy, ” If it isn’t ok, it isn’t the end”. I tend to be a worry wart and have worked hard not to fret too much about hings beyond my control so these kinds of things are great reinforcement for where I know I need to go psychologically.

I think it is very special. My participation in your Words Crush Wednesday makes me go back and review many things that I have written in my “Quotes” book over the years. Thank yo9u for the opportunity you have provided.

You are most welcome. I enjoy quotes myself which is why I started the challenge. I like that you have a quotes book. I keep some of my faves in my phone, but never wrote them in a book. Good idea.

I actually started my quotes book probably almost 40 years ago. Although I haven’t always been diligent in adding quotes the book definitely pre-dates our modern technology.

Wow, I bet you have some great quotes in there. I may be inspired to start my own quote book.

I find it interesting that you had never read it because I think of us as contemporaries. I feel like I have seen it off and on over the years. I remember in college when everyone decorated with posters seeing this poem on posters. Glad to have shared it for you.

Since I loved it when I read it in my reading book in junior high it was on my radar. It probably then registered with me whenever I saw it. You probably didn’t have the same reading book!
