The Sewing Corner — A Saturday Stitching Post

image

There was a time in my life when I had my own sewing room. It was before marriage and before motherhood, when I could afford to be more narcissistic. Now that I no longer have a child living at home, I have thought about converting the spare bedroom into a craft/sewing room which might be a smart move for when I retire.

I had worked a small cross stitch piece which hung on the wall near my sewing machine. It is one of the earliest pieces that I did and was from the early 1980’s.l

Project Details: “Sewing Machine and Rocker” from Charted Nostalgic Designs, Leisure Arts Leaflet 183, by Barbara Weiford. Copyright 1980. It was worked on 14 count Aida with 2 strands of floss for cross stitch and 1 strand of floss for back stitch.

I love the piece, especially the attention to detail. Did notice the yarn and the knitting needles on the floor in the basket.

that is lovely – and a perfect start to your sewing/craft room. I have a craft room now I am retired and empty nested, and I found a lovely crossstitch my grandmother, or aunt, made of a woman sitting at a spinning wheel. It welcomes me into my room and makes me feel like I have come home.

That piece sounds lovely. Is it a silhouette or a complete picture? I seem to recall seeing a silhouette of a woman at a spinning wheel.

What a perfect piece for a craft room! 🙂 How lovely that you’ve kept it all these years and can now use it in your decor 🙂

I have done so many pieces over the years for gifts that I am glad too that I kept this one.

It’s nice that you still have that and it would look great in your craft room. I have a craft room now and I love it! I work on my paintings, drawings and also use my computer in there. If it gets a bit out of order…I just close the door! And tidy it up when I get to it! 😁

I think one of the best things about having your own room for crafting is that you can close the door on it. When I have to do my projects out in the living area I am always conscious of trying to keep things relatively tidy, and as a result sometimes I don’t even get things out.

    What a great piece!

I have nominated you for a 3 quotes challenge, but I don’t want you to accept the challenge if you don’t want to.

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

Thank you. I should probably respond to the challenge immediately but I am kind of backed up with things. However, I will try to do it.

No need to hurry. Do it if you want to when you find the time 🙂

I love the piece. You will enjoy having a space to call your own and to get real creative in.

It’s been so long since I’ve had my own space. I am not sure I will know how to behave. I also fit my projects in wherever I can.
