Casual Friday – 6/12/15

imageOn Fridays I join Aimee of Aimee Writes for Casual Friday, a post with “no structure, no prompts, no rules, anything goes.” Check out her blog here and join us in Casual Friday if you would like.

Another Friday rolls around. Fortunately, my life has pretty much returned to normal, if there is such a thing as normal.

The highlight of my week was  getting back in the routine of taking an early morning walk with Chelsey, my yellow lab. Last year from June until September the dawn walk had been an important part of each day. I got up at 5:15, dressed immediately and put Chelsey on her leash. Casual Friday BootsWe made a 1 mile loop around the neighborhood. The only mornings we missed were when it rained. If I lay in bed a few minutes after my alarm went off, I would find Chelsey’s mug right up face and she would be staring at me. Unfortunately, the walks came to an abrupt end after I tore a meniscus on one of those walks. I was not recovered enough to continue the walks before the cold winter set in. I am healed now and have had a lazy winter and spring. With it now getting light early enough I am back at the walks. For me, it is a wonderful start to the day, and hopefully the pounds that I put on during my lack of activity will find a way to fall off. Chelsey is a year older and a year less limber so I am increasing the distance gradually, with hopes that the mile loop will not be too much for her.

I spent some time reading this week and am about half way through a 600 page book. which I am not naming at this point. I have lost interest in the book but I will not allow it to defeat me. The book came highly recommended by a friend so I am hoping that I will once again find it to be interesting. If I felt this way after reading 30 or 40 pages I would have quit as there are so many darn good books I would rather read. But having read 300 pages it feels like too much of a commitment for me to give up now. I am not naming the book because I really hope that  I will find it to be a wonderful book. I don’t want to negatively prejudice the next potential reader.

My daughter bought her first car this week. It has been an ordeal for her to find the right vehicle, secure financing and get insurance. She started out being convinced that she didn’t want to take out a loan (which is admirable) but her savings account was not going to stretch very far to get her something that would be reliable. So she ran the gamut of considering a used Smart car, which would have had the lowest payments to buying a brand new car which would have the highest payments.  She located a low mileage, late-model car at an excellent price. Someday I might rant about the hoops she had to jump through to get financing, but for now I will just say that everything worked out and she will get possession of the vehicle tomorrow. Of course, I have been riding this roller coaster with her even though she is half way across the country. One never gets past being a mom and wanting to ease the way for your child in any way you can while knowing that you have to let her make her do it on her own.

imageThe month of June continues with some absolutely beautiful weather. The daytime temperatures have been in the 80’s but it cools off so wonderfully at night which is one of my favorite things about living in the high desert of New Mexico.  We have hawthorn trees in the front of the house and they have tiny white blossoms on them.  Our evening primrose are in full bloom and our only rose-bush is blooming abundantly.

Wishing a good weekend to all.

I’ve enjoyed reading this and I’m glad you are able to get back to your walks. I understand what your saying about the roller coaster ride..of life. No, you never get passed being a “mom” …no matter how old your children get. Your flowers are beautiful. I’ve always loved the spring and summer months…everything looks so cheerful and alive!

Thanks for your comment. Spring and early summer are my favorite times because of the freshness of everything. Of course, I like autumn as well.

In our desert, we look forward to the winter, when we can see an abundance of flowers. I loved your pretty pink flowers. And yes, mothers never can stop caring, until a time comes when perhaps they are bedridden or can’ t remember who their daughters are. Till such time, a mother’s heart is held in the hands of her children.

It is very true that the mother-daughter roles eventually get reversed in many situations. I had a very nice talk with my daughter tonight and I told her how hard I struggle to not give her advice on everything. She told me that the struggle is real but I’m not doing so well on refraining from advice.

Glad your life is getting back to “normal.” Getting back to walks with Chelsey sounds nice. Sorry to hear about your knee. I hope walks help now that it is better. I hate that when books aren’t that great, especially after hundreds of pages, so one is compelled to finish because of the investment. Haha.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I came down with a bad cold and missed work so Chelsey and I have gone without our walks. Hoping to start again tomorrow.
