For I was hungry and you gave me food

On this beautiful Sunday morning, I am reminded of the responsibility we share for all of human kind. Just the smallest act of generosity and kindness for one person can mean everything in the world for that one person. We may not have means nor opportunity to influence great change, but we can do those small things. Mother Teresa also said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

This is a beautiful message. I don’t understand why some people adopt such a nasty attitude towards the homeless. They’re people, just like and me, and deserve compassion and kindness. I try to feed them whenever I can (which isn’t as often as I’d like), and it always infuriates me when people say, “Don’t give them anything, because then they’ll get used to it and won’t try to find a job.” It’s such an ignorant assumption. Not every homeless person is a drug addict. Not every homeless person is “lazy.” No one wants to be in that situation. And if there’s some way I can help them, then I will.

Sorry, I’m just really passionate about this subject.

I can detect your passion and I think it is very well placed. Homelessness is very much misunderstood and for so many homeless it was an unfortunate series of events that put them there. And then it becomes a vicious cycle that it becomes difficult to get out of. Many of them do suffer from mental illness which might be part of the reason some people are afraid of them. Keep being passionate about it–I truly believe that each act however small does make a difference.
