Casual Friday – 3/13/15

Casual Friday BootsOn Friday I join Amie of Amie Writes for Casual Friday, a post “with no structure, no rules, anything goes.”  Enjoy this week’s version.

This is the week that was.

It was a full week at work trying to catch up on things that remained unfinished after two three-day work weeks.  One fantastic thing about my job is that I am never bored.  The work days fly by.

One of my colleagues from my previous work site before I was promoted was in town for meetings so she spent the night at our home.  It was great to catch up on old times.  And we played a good game of Mexican Train dominoes which has become a tradition for us.

Many people hate the switch to daylight savings time, but I have to tell you that I love the extra hour of daylight in the evening.  I actually have time to play with the dogs outside while it is still light, or sit on the deck and read for a while. Soon there will be extra time to do some gardening after work.  I just feel that I can accomplish so much more because of the extra daylight at the end of the day.  I know it is all psychological but I do enjoy it.

I am a huge college basketball fan.  The New Mexico Lobos had a disappointing season and are all finished, after having been in the NCAA tournament for the last couple of years.  So now all my backing goes to the Wisconsin Badgers from my alma mater.  As March Madness begins I probably will spend and unusual amount of time glued to the TV.

I finished the book The Storied Life of A.J.Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin.  I am not much of a critic but I know when I like a book and this one was a quick read with a compelling story.  I enjoyed it.  Now I am reading another William Bernhardt justice novel.  Sometimes I do get into a rut with my reading and mysteries with a legal perspective are is my favorite genre.

I have two loyal and faithful dogs, Chelsey and Snoopy, both who are nearing 14 years of age.  Chelsey, a yellow lab, has been doctoring for a bladder infection.  While we were discussing certain issues with the veterinarian that Chelsey is having, the vet felt compelled to tell us that Chelsey is almost 100 years old.  That is not something I want to deal with.  Although there is true joy in pet companionship, there are also the worries and the sad times.  I for one would rather have the enjoyment along with the inevitable heartache, rather than not experience the joy at all.

I found a great Japanese word on a blog this week that describes me:  tsundoku.  It means “buying a load of books and then not getting around to read them.”  I don’t know how to pronounce the word but I know it describes me.  And I bet that it also describes a lot of people who read this post.

This is the week that was, just another thread of my life.

I think you are one lucky woman – you have the companionship two friends and so many others online- + the luxury of being able to buy loads of books – even more than you can read. Sheer Bliss !

My dogs are great, and I love to increase my online audience, but I am not sure I really have the luxury of buying books or if it is a compulsion that I cannot control. I am trying very hard to resist buying more books, but that is a challenge.

Guilty! I buy two or three books at a time, read one and then go back to the bookstore to buy more!

I thought other people would be able to identify with the word “tsundoku’. Of course I did not know there was a term for it.

Love your photo…it oozes casualness. It makes me wonder why I am stuck at my desk instead being outside. Here’s to casual Friday’s! 😀

Actually I was at my desk when your comment came in. But on casual Friday we get to wear jeans!

It is nice to see someone else who is a fan of DST! Dealing with pet aging/illness is a tough thing but I definitely agree that the joy they bring is worth it. Tsundoku describes me pretty well too.
