[ A regular Saturday feature on my blog will be sharing projects that I have completed or are in progress. Today I share a counted cross stitch angel that I completed in 2005.] 
The Celtic Angel was a design selected by my daughter. She found it on one of the shopping trips that she was forced to endure early in her teenage years. She admired it greatly and viewed it as a celebration of her Irish roots. I later went back to the store and purchased it in order to make it for her as a gift.
I had to stitch the project on the sly so she would be surprised. Whenever she was at dance class or at church functions I would furiously work on the project. When she went somewhere with her dad, he would always call me when they were on the way home so I had time to hide evidence of my work. It was probably the only time in my daughter’s life that it was I encouraging her to go out with her friends so I could have the stitching time. I was traveling occasionally for my job at that time and during the nights in the hotel you would find me stitching on this project. She was absolutely delighted when she received it as a gift for her 16th birthday.

What a gorgeous sweet 16 present. I love the shades of green, and the harp of course being the national symbol of Ireland has a beautiful double meaning.

Awesome craft work and what a lovely surprise gift. I did one for my daughter when she was about 9 (also on the sly), but the skill level required was much more basic. I keep thinking about going back to embroidering – but first I must finish my handstitched patchwork and some knitting projects – I need more than one life to do all the things I’d love to do. Sigh…

That’s interesting. I had passed the chart on when I completed this project so I had to do a liile research about it. I had bought it as a single chart which I knew was listed as being from the American School of Needlework but I learned that Barbara Baatz–who now has another surname–also is part of Kooler Design studio. I don ‘t know the relationship between the two companies.

Where did you find the Celtic angel pattern? I’ve been searching the internet for months and everything I see is already sold.

I found it at Hobby Lobby many years ago. I do not know whether it is still available. It may well be out of print. I had passed my chart on to someone else. Someone else commented that the chart could be found in a book by Kooler Design Studio. I don’t know about the availability of that book either but I wonder if you might be able to get an email address off the internet and contact them directly.
