Guardian Angel – a Good Woman Project

“These things I warmly wish for you: someone to love, some work to do, a bit o’ sun, a bit o’ cheer, and a guardian angel always near.”

I have a sister-in-law who has an extensive collection of angel memorabilia in her home.  We often stay at her house when we are traveling in the area.  In appreciation for the lodging, the great company and the great food, I stitched Diligent Protector for her for Christmas 2014.  Her birthday happens to be on December 24 and that is the day the picture was delivered to her house.

The design was part of a two part design collection in For the Love of Cross Stitch called Guardian Angels, which was adapted from antique post cards.  The design appeared in the March 1994 issue.

A guardian angel, just another thread of my life.

For my stitching friends – Project Detail:  Worked on  a 17″ x 2o” piece of white 25 count Laguna fabric over 2 fabric threads.  (112w x 147h).  Three strands of DMC floss were used for cross stitching and 1 strand for backstitching.  Needlework adaptation by Carol Emmer.  Frame was stained to match wood tones in the recipient’s home.  Outer mat was navy blue and inner mat was metallic gold.

One final thought, I clearly must improve my photography skills!

Thanks for looking and for inviting me. I shall definitely keep that in mind. I will have to get the details of how I accomplish that.

Its all on the Show & Tell Archive Page – as I said – no hurry – if you feel like it sometime next year, the offer will still stand!

Thank you for looking and for the compliment. The frame was one that I found in a thrift shop and then stained. Although I would love to be able to have everything custom framed it is just too costly. I was pleased with how this one turned out. Thanks again.

My mom sewed that exact angel and it hung in my sister’s room when I was growing up. Thanks for the nice memory.

That is neat. I have subscribed to and saved cross stitch magazines and charts for a long, long time. So usually when I get an idea to do something I find what I need in my rather large collection. Very rarely is it something new on the market although I wish I could support current designers more. Do you know where your mother’s piece is now?

Thank you for your nomination. I was actually just preparing an acceptance post for two others who had nominated me for the same award so I included your questions in that post. But now that I think about it I might not have linked to your acceptance post so that you would get a pingback. I will check on that. I am too new to this whole business!

Me too! Took me ages to make sure it’s all linked and referred and to come up with new questions…

It’s lovely! I have a wedding angel my mother stitched for me for my wedding gift and nearly 16 years later it’s just as beautiful as it was the day she gave it to me. Thanks for sharing this with us!

Thank you for the compliment. I would love to see a picture of the angel your mother did for you. I also did another one which will probably be the topic of another post one day.
